12/23/2023 0 Comments Trine enchanted edition vs original![]() ![]() It presents a fairytale world so rich and indulgent it's likely to give you gout, and offers physics-based puzzle platforming that's edges ever closer to being a Rube Goldberg simulator. It dispenses with the erroneous experiment in 3D platforming of its predecessor, offering a more traditional sequel that doubles down on the stuff that made Trines 1 and 2 such absorbing platformers. Availability: Available October 8th on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PCĪs it turns out, Trine 4 is more like Trine 3: Trine Harder.Trine 4 sounds like a Douglas Adams joke, only humour has never been Frozenbyte's strong point. Three Trine games was more Trine than I ever thought I'd need, and given the title it seemed fitting to end the series as a trilogy, even if the last one was a bit duff. Trine 4 is a game I didn't know I wanted until it was on the screen before me. I highly recommend it.Outrageously pretty and newly refined, Frozenbyte's series finally strikes gold. ![]() The story isn’t fleshed out and there can be instances where you can feel some repetitiveness but that doesn’t undermine the fact that Trine is a great game. Each character is unique and the fact that you can control each of them at any point feels refreshing. Whether it’s its beautiful visual and environments or its brilliant platforming. There’s no doubt it was a port well done! In portable mode, the game runs and plays great with no slow-downs. The character’s abilities only get minor upgrades. I wish the developers would have done more to shake up the gameplay a little. You’re still doing the same thing with a few shakeups here and there. Each level is indeed unique but the problem is that there’s nothing that expands or changes the gameplay. There are a few flaws notably how repetitive it can feel. Still, the story is solid and effective, it’s just not the reason you’ll play want to play the game. There isn’t much story wise as it’s dispersed between levels and told by a narrator that does a wonderful job. There’s also a great soundtrack that really adds to the magical atmosphere. Each stage looks unique and there’s a sense of enchantment going on. The mix of puzzle elements is very neat and I really liked that. This game nails the platforming and each level is well designed. I liked the fact that the game encourages thinking out of the box and finding your own way to solve the many obstacles. The stages are built so that you can solve them in various ways using any character you want. You can alternate between each character at any time. There’s also a Thief who’s good with speed and agility and a Wizard that can summon various objects. The Knight, for example, is very good for attacking but not useful for other things. ![]() Each hero is unique and they have very different move sets. What I mean by 2.5D it’s the fact there are sometimes parts where you can go vertically but these segments are few and not common. It’s a 2.5D action platformer where you play as three heroes who are bound by a mysterious artifact. The Enchanted Edition is Trine (originally released in 2009) but remade using Trine 2’s engine featuring online gameplay with up to three players. Trine Enchanted Edition is a port of the game released on PC in 2014 by the studio Frozenbyte (developer of Nine Parchments on Switch). I took it upon myself to review it and here I am. Yet, from the few screenshots I saw, I was immediately intrigued. I didn’t know much about the game before I started playing Trine.
